Who Is Seshat Oshun?
Her Story
Seshat Oshun is a romance author writing spicy rom-com instalove for women who've earned every gray hair, survived every hard season, and still have a whole lot of want left in them. Her stories feature middle-aged, interracial couples and a guaranteed happily-ever-after. She's trying to get better at the marketing stuff but if you see her on Pinterest or Instagram…HOLLA! Her name is pronounced SESH-aht oh-SHOON. Seshat is the Egyptian goddess of writing, records, libraries, and storytelling and Oshun is Yoruba orisha associated with beauty, creativity, femininity, love, and art.
From the Ocean to the Desert
Seshat was born and raised on the island of Tobago, but her father's engineering job had her family moving to Arizona when she was fifteen. Adjusting to her new home in the desert was quite the cultural and environmental shock, so she started journal writing to cope. Her love of stories began when her mother took her and her two younger sisters to the library, where she promptly encountered and devoured Francine Pascal's Sweet Valley High series.
Until she discovered boys.
And realized her milkshake didn't bring them all to the yard; it was her island accent, eh?
Seshat wasn't allowed to date in high school, so she crushed on those white boys from afar. She also outgrew Sweet Valley High the minute she saw a shirtless, muscled white man on the cover of a Harlequin romance novel.
She checked it out.
And that was that.
Suddenly, she was journaling about…other things.
From Sweet Valley to Spice Valley
Seshat's tagline may be Spicy Midlife Instalove, but it didn't start out that way. She was reading full-length novels from the likes of Lori Foster, Melissa Foster, Shelley Laurenston, J.R. Ward, Lora Leigh, Jaci Burton, and Lynsay Sands. Then COVID hit in 2020. Both of her parents got sick and ended up in the hospital for several days, and she and her sisters quarantined with them for a month once they were released. Time was at a premium when she discovered short 90-minute reads by Olivia T. Turner, Cassie Mint, Luna Wilder, Fiona Davenport, Loni Ree, Frankie Love, Lana Love, Nichole Rose, Brynn Hale, Imani Jay, and Hope Ford.
And that was that.
When she decided to dip a toe in the Sexy Pool, Spice was life. The hot and sexy kind that leaves your panties damp after reading it.
Midlife because she wasn't seeing enough stories about older women being wanted, pursued, and cherished without apology—by (slightly) younger men.
Instalove because well, fuck slow burn!
Despite being a divorcee and no longer wanting an HEA for herself, Seshat still loves to read and wants to write stories where that happens to midlife characters.
Off the page, she's a daisy girl in a rose-obsessed world and the person who will absolutely stop everything to rewatch Step Up for the forty-seventh time (Channing Tatum, you're welcome). She has strong opinions about Jean-Claude Van Damme movies, a deep and abiding love for that silly old bear (you know the one she's talkin' about, eh?), and a playlist that goes from Motown to 80s and 90s music without apology.
